ANNOUNCEMENT
for the International Theatre Conference on
“The World and Theatre are waiting for Godot”
Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (ASUCA) is planning to hold an International Theatre Conference titled as “The World and The Theatre are waiting for Godot”.
This online conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts will be held in Baku on November 22-23, 2022.
The subject of the conference doesn’t accidentally consonants with the title of S. Beckett’s absurd masterpiece: it is thought of as a topical reflection on the realities of our world, and the current conditions of performing arts. Today, the world and society are facing globalization, robotization, the lack of communication, ongoing local wars like a chain reaction, and the shameless anarchism of social networks. Today, the fate of performing arts is also mysterious. However, everyone, both in the world and in arts, hopes and expects something. Today, Beckett’s Godot has become a symbol of everyone’s unknown hope.
The purpose of the conference is to clarify, at least partly, in the situation of “waiting for Godot” for the world and the theatre, what is really happening, what processes take place, what perspectives performing arts await, what direction the theatre vector is directed in the modern context, and to seek answers to many questions in the polyphony of voices and ideas.
The organizational committee invites all experts who want to find answers to those questions, as well as candidates for PhD degree and masters of arts to participate in the conference.
The working languages of the conference, which will be held on the Zoom platform, are Azerbaijani, Russian and English. The link to the conference will be sent to the e-mail address of the participants a few days before the event.
