CHAIR OF TOURISM AND LIBRARY-INFORMATION ACTIVITIES
The Department of Tourism and Library-Information Activities of the Faculty of Cultural studies of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts was established as the Department of Economics and Computer Science on 1 September 2001. On 12 September 2018 due to new structural reforms in the University the Department of Economics and Computer Science was merged with the Department of Booklore and Library science. The merge resulted in the establishment of the Department of Tourism and Library-information activities. In the years 2001-2022 the Department was headed by Associate Professor, PhD in Economics Maleyka Haji Hasanova. Since 29 March 2022 the Department has been headed by PhD in Art Studies, Senior Lecturer,
Sayavush Elman Makhishov.
The Department considers the needs existing in the society and local labour market and provides educational programs and train highly qualified specialists on such majors as “Organization of Tourism”, "Tour guidance” and "Library and Information Activities" for bachelor’s programme. The Master’s programme covers such majors as “Tourism and Hotel Management” (which is divided into such directions as “Service organization in socio-cultural directions”, “Tourism guidance” and “Tourism and socio-cultural service”) and Management (Cinema and Television Arts, Theatre, Music, Museums and Galleries)
Over 120 subjects are taught under the educational programs envisaged for bachelor's and master's levels of higher education in such directions as humanities, professional training, and specialization. The educational programme provides students with necessary knowledge, skills, and competences to analyse existing challenges and processes in various areas of social activity and solve standard and non-standard issues related to the specialty.
During the years of functioning of the Department, its Academic staff published various comprehensive scientific research works, along with numerous monographs, textbooks, teaching aids, educational programs and methodological materials, their reports and articles were published in proceedings of conferences held in our country and abroad as well as in prestigious scientific journals. To name a few “Fundamentals of Tourism”, “Management of Culture and Art directions”, "Public Relations", "Computer Technologies", "Artistic-aesthetic essence of national customs and traditions of Azerbaijan", "International cultural policy", "Automated library-information processes".
