Although this chair was established in ASUCA in 2011, this branch of our traditional oral music has quite rich traditions at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. From this point of view, we would not be wrong if we said that the University of Culture and Arts is the first higher educational institution that purposefully teaches ashug art in Azerbaijan. On the initiative of the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijani ashug art was included in the representative list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage. This confirms the historical role of Ashug art as one of the oldest examples of Azerbaijani cultural heritage at the international level. At the University of Culture and Arts, this ancient art form's teaching process is approached with great care and responsibility.
